With this bill of sale, Jacob Bergen sold his slave Isaac to John Lefferts for the sum of $250.  Because the exchange took place after the passage of an 1817 law that would manumit New York slaves in 1827, this bill of sale stipulates that the length of servitude would be subject to the statutes of the New York Legislature.
